I became interested in Liberty Harbor after reading an article about the project in the Atlanta Journal & Constitution newspaper. I had visited Brunswick twice before to look at a boat at the Brunswick marina and had stayed in a B & B in the city. The B & B was charming with beautiful live oaks and spanish moss. The restaurant where we had dinner was fabulous and the band The B-52's had dinner at a table right next to our table. We ended up buying the boat and the whole experience was so good that when I read the article I thought to myself, I could live in a place like that. I have looked in the Florida panhandle and was turned off primarily by the traffic. The fact that Brunswick is what is known as a "hurricane hole" in the parlance of the boater and had such a friendly and beautiful feel made this choice relatively easy for me.

We received the Liberty Harbor "purchase gift" I must say you and your team do a very nice job and are among the most detail oriented and customer friendly sales team with whom I have been associated. As an investor, businessman and professional marketer I am impressed with your organization and pleased to be a part of the Liberty Harbor community. My wife and I have a young family and look forward to many years of enjoyment at our Liberty Harbor vacation/retirement property.

Dr. Margaret H. Goodman

My name is Margaret Goodman, I am an OBGYN. I grew up in CT. I grew up in Waterbury CT. I did my residency in Denver and met my husband in medical school. How we ended up down here was my parents retired from CT down to this area.

Vacationing here over the years. My brother, who is a dentist from Ohio State, he opened a practice here, probably about 10 years ago, so he moved here with his wife and little boy. And my sister, who is married to a physician also moved here and my husband and I followed. So my whole family is here. I agree with everything these folks have said. It is a great place to raise children. I have one child, he is at Frederica Academy. I agree that there are options for public school or private schools for everyone. It is a great place for retirement life, my parents are 78 years old and they are having a blast living here.

I think it has added 20 years to their lives, especially surrounded by their children and grandchildren. I think Brunswick is becoming more attractive, in terms in restaurants; people are redoing old buildings and warehouses and turning them into apartments like in New York. The waterfront has really not been developed, so I think it has great potential. I think it is going to keep growing.
Dr. Tim Jamieson

I have been traveling down here for about 20 years. My sister lives in St. Marys. I have lived here about 7 years. We lived in Jacksonville for a year. And both my wife and I like this place infinitely better than Jacksonville. It is much more friendly and manageable; the hassle factor is much smaller. The excellent restaurants. For me, the medical facility is excellent. The physicians you work with, the administrators are friendly. I am Radiation Oncologist; we just got a brand new, multi-million dollar facility with all new state of the art equipment. The administration said no to nothing, so it was great. We have a great staff all around us; you can talk to them and interact with them.

My wife likes it a lot better because it is an easy place to live. Everything is close by. As they mentioned, there are other things coming. She is part of GIAHA, which is the Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association. There is a lot going on, they are opening a chamber music festival here, I think at the out-patient center. Bringing some musicians in from New York and other places. So there are a lot of neat, interesting things happening here. I think one potential draw back that you guys are addressing is that, if all these physicians want to move here, St Simons is very expensive. Having an alternative other places to live such as the waterfront in Brunswick, is an excellent recruiting tool. That whole area, downtown area of Brunswick where all the restaurants are, is a really neat place, very historic.

There is a lot of giving and a sense of community here. I have never met nicer people. When I moved here, I felt very at home. I met a lot of people. Everyone in the business community was very nice to me. You have people who are coming here and have been vacationing here for years and years and years, from Florida, from inland Georgia, North Georgia and they love it. And you run into those people all the time and they all say “I wish I could live here. I wish I could live here.” Or “I am going to move here as soon as I retire.”
Bob Lyon
Owner, Island Promos

No I am a Delaware refugee. I am Bob Lyon and I own Island Promos, a promotional product, advertising specialty business. I work at my home on St Simons with my wife. My story in a nutshell, I grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, my wife is from CT, we moved here about 51/2 years ago and we had a strong desire to move to a warmer climate. We love the ocean, love the beach, we love being outdoors, we love warm weather. We dreamed about moving South when we retired. The more time went on and our girls got a little older, they are currently 9 and 6, we realized, if we stayed, they will not be wanting to move down South with us when we retire. So we thought if we don’t go, we may never go. So we quit our jobs, sold our house and moved to this place.

My wife went to school in Daytona Beach and she didn’t particularly want to move to Florida. The way I found this place was on a map. It was the next town up from Florida, Brunswick and St Simons. So I did a little research on the internet. Called a real estate agent down here, told him what was on my minds and we were crazy. I flew down here by myself on Labor Day weekend, stayed on Exit 29 and a little dumpy hotel, rented a car and for the whole weekend, I can’t tell you how many people I talked to but I drove around this whole area, mainly on St Simons and talked to every single person I could find. Literally, driving in and out of neighborhoods and shopping centers. That whole weekend, I cannot remember one person who said they didn’t like it here, everybody loves it here. And it is so true; this is the best place I could have ever imagined to move. What has happened since then is beyond my wildest dreams from a business stand point and how much we like it here. I literally, don’t have hardly anything negative that I can say. I still, my wife and I both, will be sitting around and say “This is where we live.” The other thing that has been great too, is the real estate appreciation here.
Barbara Ingram
Owner, Paramount Printing

My name is Barbara Ingram, I own Paramount Printing, right across the street there and we do printing services for Liberty Harbor, thank you.

I did go to high school in Stamford, CT and went to Boston University, got my undergrad degree there. And moved back to Florida to see my dad’s family, met my husband there, he was a Naval Officer in the nuclear power submarine force. Went to Seattle, worked for a while up there and then he got stationed at Kings Bay and he did get out of the navy while he was stationed here, but I had started working here and we like this area. I mean, living all over the world, and we could not think of a better place than this. We love the water. So we could have a boat, you have inland little lakes and creeks, you can go out deep sea fishing, the water is warm, the beaches are not crowded, there are places to park. People are friendly. Crime is low.

I think you have the “small towness” of being in South Georgia, but you’ve got a little more sophistication being on the coast and more in terms of little theaters. Just some things I think you would not find in other small town that are more inland.

Everywhere we go we see people we know and have in common. I am a member of the Brunswick Rotary. It was something that I was looking for and I found it here and I cherish it.
